What We Do
Albemarle Law & Policy, PLLC advises clients on a wide range of matters, with a key focus on state and federal legal and policy matters involving state attorneys general (AGs). Who We Are
For two decades, Albemarle Law & Policy, PLLC founder and principal Divonne Smoyer has represented Fortune 100 companies and key trade associations from a wide variety of industries, including pharmaceutical, banking and financial services, tech, telecommunications, insurance, industrial, energy and consumer services on complex high-stakes matters involving AGs in all 50 states and territories.
She is ranked in Band 1 by Chambers USA in the area of “Government Relations: State Attorneys General in USA – Nationwide” where clients praise her for “proactive strategies to engage state attorneys general and help avoid litigation” and as “excellent in attorney general investigations” and “extremely responsive, very smart, thoughtful and really does a fantastic job.”
During her career, Divonne has taught as an Adjunct Law Professor at the Georgetown and George Washington University Law Schools. She is currently Adjunct Law Professor at the George Mason Antonin Scalia School of Law where she teaches on the powers and duties of State AGs. She is a frequent speaker on state AGs, their importance in the federal system, and their roles in key policy areas including privacy and data protection.
Divonne is a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and a summa cum laude graduate of Smith College.
